Hello!
My name is Tate Morris, and I’m a game designer focused on gameplay mechanics for both video games and tabletop experiences.
I specialize in Unreal Engine, where I design and implement systems that feel intuitive, responsive, and engaging. My work includes AI behavior, player interaction systems,
and core gameplay loops, and I approach each project from a systems perspective—ensuring that individual mechanics connect meaningfully to shape the overall player
experience. What drives me most is taking an idea from concept to something players can truly feel, with a strong focus on how small design decisions influence behavior,
pacing, and engagement.
As the lead designer on my capstone project, I collaborated closely with programmers, artists, and designers to align our vision and deliver cohesive gameplay systems.
My role required not only designing mechanics, but also clearly communicating ideas, iterating on feedback, and guiding the team toward effective solutions. In parallel,
my experience as an assistant manager strengthened my leadership, organization, and communication skills, particularly in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.
Together, these experiences allow me to contribute both creatively and technically while supporting strong team collaboration.
My interest in game design began early, sparked by playing Skyrim and realizing that games—like any software—are built through code and intentional design.
That moment connected my passion for technology, creativity, and creating enjoyable experiences for others. Since then, I’ve consistently worked toward a career in
game development through coursework, hands-on projects, and immersive learning opportunities like a UE4 Blueprint-focused summer program. With years of focused
development and a continued passion for both digital and physical game design, I’m prepared to bring thoughtful, player-centered design into a professional environment.
Skills
These are a list of related skills in programs and languages that I have personally ranked myself in. To me, a 0% means zero idea of what I would be doing, 50% means I have a conceptual understanding but not so much experience, and 100% means I am incredibly comfortable utilizing the program/language and would confidently say I am fluent in said skill.
